One of the great new advances in technology is our ability to scan your teeth and keep a permanent record of their perfect positions. Our orthodontic office is the first to use this new technology here in Yuma.

This eliminates the older technique of taking an impression each time we need a model of your teeth. The impressions had a tendency to make patients gag and the plaster models that were generated would break while making the retainers.

With a scan of your perfect teeth we can 3D print your models and use them to make retainers as many times as needed.

Sometimes my patients will ask me...

"How long do I have to wear my retainers?"

Well, the answer is you need to wear retainers as long as you want to keep your teeth straight. Even as an adult your teeth can move.

When your braces first come off we will ask you to wear your retainers pretty much all the time. All day and all night. Take them out only when you eat or drink or when you are brushing your teeth.

A month after your braces are off we will check to see how stable your teeth are. Everyone is different. Some people need to continue full time wear. Others can start to wean off their retainers, eventually wearing them just at night.

Typically we will make a clear removable retainer for your top teeth and a "permanent" lower retainer that is bonded to the tongue side of your bottom six front teeth. After some time this retainer can be replaced with a removable one if you desire.
